I dont want to hear about being a spawn point or testing the density of the air as you pass by. You help no one flying Ms. Daisy around for a duck hunt. The current problem with dropship is that passengers get the kill assist points, which is entirely stupid. It causes players to stay in it, and not drop out to cap points. Honestly, have air supports helps alot, but once you have 4 guys sitting in it just leeching points, that is four guys not on the ground fighting. Honestly, having air support helps no one but the guy trying to get on top of the buildings to snipe for their one kill of the entire match.
Helps no one?
Okay... I don't fly dropships and I haven't been a fan of them in the past but that's a ridiculous statement to make. A dropship that has a mobule spawn unit installed in it could be a huge help. Imagine if you were playing on a large map with a lot of objectives that are spread out, that's a lot of traveling to do. Instead of having to spawn at a letter, call in a LAV or whatever, and make your way to that objective you could spawn in a dropship and have it go over the objective so you can jump out and right onto it... also allowing you to easily flank enemies that might be looking over it because you know they're most likely going to be staring at the obvious entrances, not so much the sky.
& You know how people are generally gathered around 1 or 2 objectives while the rest are usually unguarded, easy and quick capping thanks to a dropship.
Now having 3+ people camping inside of one is obviously a bad thing, no reason for people to be wasting their time leeching points via kill assist. That's just lame and selfish, but dropships can help the team quite a bit when used properly. |

But couldnt a ground pounder do the same thing by throwing a mobile spawn point behind enemy lines? and have that extra person running with the others to overpower and outsmart all others? Why the need for a dedicated flying taxi cab?
It wouldn't be the same.
When you drop an uplink, that's one set location, there is no picking it up and bringing it somewhere else. While if you can spawn in a dropship, it can move throughout the map quickly, so you can basically spawn anywhere on the map while the drop uplink is one spot.. which is also easy to camp and destroy if seen, and I see those pop up on the radar quite often.
But yes, drop uplinks are good too.
Mobile spawn points ftw. |

Mobile spawn points ftw. I understand the mobility of it. But you seem to forget your ship is not invisible. All the flying around is making you a target for the AV guys and tankers. Plus you have to depend on a randoms flying skill not to crash and burn. Not to mention unless you are on comms. you will be going where the pilot wants to go not where you are needed. There are many negatives to having a flying taxi but I will say with a competent pilot some can be overcome. Still I'd rather have you on the ground capping objectives and killing others.
Teamwork
I understand what you would rather someone do, but I would rather my team use multiple methods instead of sticking to a few. I'd like to have a dropship that people can spawn in, drop uplinks here and there, a few tanks, and a few LAVs on the field, and the rest on foot running a muck on objectives and such.
That way if one method is caught and ruined, it's no big deal, choose another, adapt and overcome. Of course dropships aren't invisible, I've shot down many with swarm launchers, but they are still very good at dropping off teammates at objectives from the sky. |

When the dropship makes different movements it throws of the missile launchers accuracy. When the pilot is driving at a smooth rate the missile launchers accuracy is great. That's why it usually sucks being the gunner for guys who pilot those things around like maniacs. |
